VIRGINIA, USA — A newly released study says the proposed entertainment complex includes a new arena for Caps and Wizards Potomac Yard. This move could bring thousands of jobs and billions in revenue to Virginia.
The city of Alexandria dropped a summary report ahead of the holiday weekend.
The newly released summary of the study says the more than $2 billion development could bring an estimated 30,000 permanent jobs to the Commonwealth, that's not including the construction jobs needed to build the massive complex.
It also predicts around $7.9 billion in annual revenue across the state.
"It is an opportunity for multiple years of commercial development and investment and revenue diversification for the city.” says Alexandria Mayor, Justin Wilson.
Since the announcement earlier this month, Virginia lawmakers have pointed at the potential economic benefits of the proposed project, but so far only a summary of the study has been made public.
Alexandria's Economic Development Partnership hired consultants to conduct the analysis back in June. Still no word of when the full report might be released.
“It’s still not a done deal. The General Assembly has not acted and I don’t think there is universal support among the General Assembly.” Alexandria, Virginia State Senator Adam Ebbin told WUSA9 .
