RICHMOND, Va. (WUSA9) -- Maureen McDonnell, the wife of former Governor Bob McDonnell, will be sentenced Friday.
Maureen McDonnell was convicted with her husband in September on multiple corruption charges in September.
Maureen McDonnel was convicted of eight counts, and the former governor was convicted of 11. Bob McDonnell was sentenced to two years behind bars last month.
The judge who delivered Bob McDonnell's sentence will also handle Maureen McDonnell's. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 18 months for Maureen McDonnell.
Maureen McDonnell's attorneys will argue that the public humiliation she endured during the six-week trial is punishment enough and are asking the judge to let her off with probation and 4,000 hours of community service.
Juror Kathleen Carmody feels Maureen McDonnell should serve prison time.
"There is no doubt in my mind that Maureen had a hand in all this, and could even be considered driving the bus," Carmody explained.
Carmody believes, as prosecutors do, that Maureen McDonnell deserves less prison time than her husband because she was not an elected official or even a government employee.
Bob McDonnell won his request to stay out of prison pending his appeal, something Carmody finds distasteful.
"I felt that it was definitely part of him being high heeled, connected, as opposed to the drug dealer who has to go into jail and wait his time while his appeal is run through, Carmody said.
The former Governor is expected to be at his wife's sentencing Friday, because she was present for his. It is unclear whether all of the McDonnell children will attend as some are not supporting their mother.
