WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A Virginia man is facing charges after police say he pepper sprayed a teenager and a dog in Woodbridge last month.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, 70-year-old James Michael Timberlake was arrested and charged with assault with a caustic substance and animal cruelty.

Investigators say Timberlake was walking his dog in the 3900 block of Forestdale Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. on Feb. 27. At the same time, a 16-year-old unleashed his dog from a nearby yard.

Police say the two dogs "began to interact" and Timberlake sprayed the teen's dog with pepper spray.

After the teen secured his dog, police say Timberlake followed the 16-year-old and his pet onto the teen's property and pepper-sprayed the boy, as well as the dog for a second time.

The victim later reported the injuries to police. The teen's dog, a labrador-poodle mix, was not injured.
