STERLING, Va. — A man is facing charges after he reportedly opened fire on a car when the driver hit his dog.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened Wednesday just after 6:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Albemarle Road in Sterling.
Investigators say a white vehicle hit a dog after the animal "entered the roadway." The driver then continued to leave and the dog's owner reportedly took out a gun and fired several rounds at the car.
Deputies arrested the dog's owner, identified as 43-year-old Steven Drew. He has been charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Less than a week later, LCSO says the driver who was shot at has come forward and will not be facing any charges. Deputies further added the dog was reported off-leash when it ran into the roadway.
The dog has since been treated by a local veterinarian.
