PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A man was arrested for killing his own dog in Prince William County.
On Tuesday, officers responded to the area between Verde Place and Piedmont Vista Drive in Haymarket just after 8:45 a.m. to investigate shots fired.
A witness told police that they saw, 70-year-old John James Ogle, fire a handgun into the ground by a wooded area.
When officers arrived, they determined Ogle was attempting to euthanize his 16-year-old dog. Ogle fired one round followed by multiple other rounds until the dog died. Animal Control Officers were contacted to remove the dog from the area.
Ogle has been charged with felony cruelty to animals, shooting in a public place, and improper disposal of a companion animal. He has since been released on personal recognizance.
