Man found stabbed to death in Alexandria

Police say the victim was found fatally stabbed in the 2700 block of Dewitt Avenue.

WASHINGTON — Alexandria police were investigating Sunday after a man was found fatally stabbed in the Del Ray neighborhood.

Police were called to the 2700 block of Dewitt Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a stabbing. They arrived to find a 38-year-old male suffering from a stab wound. Despite life-saving measures at the scene, the man was declared dead a short time later.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the victim, nor did they release suspect information. Although the department posted on social media that there was believed to be not threat to the public.

The homicide was the seventh of the year for Alexandria. The city saw six homicides in all of 2022 and only two in 2021.

The most recent homicide in the city occurred in September, when a fight on the 2500 block of Van Dorn Street turned deadly. A suspect in that case, 48-year-old Ricky Dehate, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.

Last month, Alexandria police arrested another man in connection with the April murder of 33-year-old Brenda Ochoa Guerrero. Eric Antonio Rubio, 36, of Alexandria, was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Guerrero’s death. Three other men were charged with felony concealment of a body in the case.

Anyone with information about a crime in Alexandria can report it to police online or by calling the department’s non-emergency number at 703-746-4444.
