WASHINGTON — A man is facing several charges after police say he repeatedly hit a Virginia State Trooper's patrol vehicle during a chase on Interstate 495 early Sunday morning.
According to the Virginia State Police, 24-year-old Reggie P. White, of College Park, Maryland, has been charged with four counts of assault on law enforcement, four counts of felony hit and run, four counts of misdemeanor hit and run, four counts of destruction of state property, eluding law enforcement, grand larceny, driving without a license, not wearing a seatbelt and with being a pedestrian on the interstate.
The chase began shortly before 3:45 a.m. Sunday when state troopers learned of a reportedly stolen car traveling along Route 1 in Fairfax County.
Investigators say a Virginia State Trooper saw the stolen vehicle and tried to pull the driver over. The driver refused and sped away as the trooper chased him.
During the pursuit, Virginia State Police say the suspect rammed the trooper's patrol vehicle twice as Route 1 approached Interstate 495. The chase continued onto the westbound interstate, where the suspect reportedly hit the same trooper's vehicle a third time before turning onto Interstate 95 southbound and hitting the patrol vehicle for a fourth time.
The stolen car was eventually stopped when Troopers used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver in the I-95 southbound lanes near Exit 167.
White attempted to run away after the chase, according to police, but was taken into custody a few minutes later. Two other adult passengers were also in the car during the chase and arrested on outstanding warrants.
