FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Police officers are now searching for three men they say were seen running from a third-story Fairfax County apartment Sunday after a man was shot dead.
The man was found in the 5500 block of Seminary Road at the Skyline Towers apartment around 2:45 p.m. Police released photos after the incident, announcing that detectives identified the three persons of interest.
"It's only a matter of time until we know who you are, it's only a matter of time until you're in custody," said Second Lieutenant James Curry during a news conference.
Investigators say a witness that was inside the apartment when the shooting took place was the one that made the call to Fairfax County Police.
"It is important that you turn yourselves in immediately, so we hear what you have to say about what occurred inside," said Curry, who told reporters that they believe the incident was a targeted attack.
"There are no signs of forced entry. This does not appear to be a random act. The circumstances that led to the shooting are certainly still under investigation," he added.
Anyone with information on the three individuals pictured is asked to call the police at 703-691-2131.
The incident prompted a shelter-in-place while officers canvassed the towers looking for the three men.
"A lot of police in the area and they closed the lobby. It was unusual," said a resident of the apartments that identified himself as Nanuk.
The shelter-in-place request was rescinded around 5:30 p.m.
WUSA9 reporter Katie Lusso obtained a message sent out to apartment residents confirming the incident while the shelter-in-place was still ongoing, pictured below.
