PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Police say an argument between a videogame store employee and a customer turned violent after the worker stabbed the patron at Potomac Mills Thursday afternoon.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, officers were called to the GameStop at the mall in Woodbridge just after 2 p.m. to investigate a fight.

When officers arrived, they learned a 30-year-old man was a customer at the store when he got into into argument with an employee, later identified as 28-year-old Xavior Robert Lee Courtney.

Investigators say Courtney and the customer were arguing when he grabbed a pocket knife and stabbed the customer in the upper body.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for help and is expected to survive.

Courtney reportedly left the store before police arrived but later returned and was taken into custody without issue. He now faces charges of aggravated malicious wounding.

There is no word on what started the fight.

The stabbing is not the first violent crime connected to the videogame store this week. In Florida, a GameStop clerk reportedly shot a fleeing shoplifter who had grabbed five boxes of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet “ultra-premium” trading cards and ran toward the door. The shoplifter dropped the cards and ran outside to a waiting pickup truck, where a woman called police. He died three hours later at a hospital, according to reporting from the Associated Press
