Funeral arrangements announced for firefighter killed in Sterling house explosion

Trevor Brown leaves behind a wife and three children.

LEESBURG, Va. — A firefighter was killed when a Sterling house exploded Friday, and now, as the community bands together to remember him, funeral arrangements have been announced.

Trevor Brown, 45, with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company died at the scene of the explosion, which happened after firefighters responded to Silver Ridge Drive just after 7:30 p.m. They reported to a home at the location after reports of a smell of gas.

In addition, Brown became affiliated with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System in 2016. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, his remains returned to Loudoun County from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Prince William County in a procession, which allowed community members to pay respects.

Brown's funeral is scheduled to be held on Monday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Chapel, which is located at 650 Battlefield Parkway SE, Leesburg, Virginia. More funeral details are expected to be released at a later date.

"As we continue to navigate this difficult time, we are incredibly appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown towards our system members, their families and loved ones," Loudoun County Fire and Rescue and Sterling Volunteer Fire Company said in an announcement. "Please continue to keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected."

The release continued by stating to keep their system members who sustained injuries in the community's thoughts and prayers as they continue to recover, both at home and in area hospitals. As a result of the explosion, 12 people were injured in addition to Brown's death. Of those injured, 10 were first responders and two were civilians.
