Firefighter injured while fighting basement blaze at Aldie home

The fire has since been controlled, but no information has been released as to what started the fire.

ALDIE, Va. — A firefighter is suffering from injuries after battling a house fire in Aldie, Virginia Tuesday morning.

Officials with the Loudoun County Fire Department informed WUSA9 that just before 6:30 a.m. they received a call about a fire on Connor Court, off of Braddock Road. Firefighters say that the fire was in the basement.

According to the fire department, following the battle with the basement fire, a firefighter was reported to be injured. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. The firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

No information has been released about the firefighter's identity, this includes his name, age, and how long he has been working for the fire department.

Crews initiated an aggressive attack, deployed hose lines, and located the source of the fire. They had the fire extinguished within 10 minutes. 

After further investigation, fire and rescue determined the fire was an accident. It was caused by the spontaneous combustion of construction materials. They estimate the damages are worth about $420,000. 

The Loudoun County Fire Department is reminding the community to properly discard sanding and staining materials to avoid situations like this.
