CLIFTON, Va. — A Northern Virginia family is asking for prayers, as their two young sons remain hospitalized with severe smoke inhalation.
Crews were called to the 13900 block of Whetstone Manor Court in Clifton around 9:30 a.m., Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.
Zachariah, 3, and William, 6, were trapped inside their home Wednesday morning and had to be rescued by firefighters.
"My daughter called me crying she came by and saw them doing CPR on one of the kids," said Alan Walker who lives nearby.
Reina Brice, the boys' mother, told WUSA9 Thursday night that her two youngest sons were not doing well.
In a Facebook post, the family gave an update on the boys.
"Everyone please pray immediately! We were told this afternoon that both William and Zachariah have symptoms consistent with brain death. It is not the final prognosis and they will both be further tested again tomorrow afternoon to determine the outcome.
It was serious enough to have Seth and Logan come in, and for visitors to come. If you want to visit, we can coordinate.
This is mission critical now and the only thing we ask is to pray and get everyone you know to pray. We don’t want any money, items or clothes. We just want our boys.
We didn’t even want to share these pictures, but we have no choice as this is truly life or death now. Our church is currently doing a prayer vigil and we are aware of other churches joining. Please just pray, pray, pray that their brains will heal, recover and come alive.
Tag, share, pray. Tag, share, pray."
As of Thursday night, a GoFundMe page for the family had raised more than $100,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It's unknown where the fire started but scanner audio from the incident said there was a fire in the kitchen.
