'No one felt safe to walk their dogs' | Falls Church community still shaken up after beloved dog killed

Reyan Hassan Ibrahim, 25, was arrested near Dulles Airport Monday.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. β€” The Virginia man accused of brutally stabbing a dog on Sunday, went before a judge Wednesday morning.

Police say 25-year-old Reyan Hassan Ibrahim, of Broadlands, Virginia, was arrested in connection to the stabbing Monday morning. He was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department during a traffic stop near Dulles.

Investigators say he stabbed Lucy, a 12-year-old German Shepherd mix repeatedly Sunday night. She was injured so badly, that she had to be euthanized. Police said the attack was unprovoked.

Wednesday morning, Ibrahim was in court for his first appearance. A judge ordered that he be held with no bond.

WUSA9 has learned that at the time of his arrest, he was out on bond for three unrelated charges in Loudoun County. He was arrested in November after police said he destroyed thousands of dollars worth of property at three different businesses in Loudoun County. He was out on bond at the time of his arrest on Monday.

Wednesday night, WUSA9 checked in with the Falls Church community, who explained they're still shaken up by it all.

"We're a total community and this has really shaken us to the core," said Reggie Reinovsky, who said Lucy's owner is her neighbor. She heard and saw some of the commotion Sunday night.

"[I] heard cars and people screaming and I looked out the window. The police were there instantly," she said.

"It's terrible. I don't know what kind of person can do that to a dog. Someone just walking. Why?" questioned Ricky Jones.

He's general manager of Paisano's which is just down the street.

"It broke my heart It's someone's pet. I just recently lost my dog in August. I can't even imagine what the person is going through. My heart goes out to them," said Jones.

The executive director of Wheatland Farm told WUSA9 Wednesday night, that police in Loudoun County have been in touch with her, and told her, they're close to charging Ibrahim in a case on their property, too.

She told WUSA9 on Monday that she believes Ibrahim is the same person who was on their property on Friday and Saturday.

Farm workers believe Ibrahim is the man they spotted with what they think was a machete, trying to get near their horses. Two ducks and a rooster there later turned up dead.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed if Ibrahim is a suspect.

Lucy's family says they've received an outpouring of support and had a lot of people reaching out who want to donate to them. In lieu of that, they're asking those who are interested in donating, to do so in Lucy's memory to Hart, the organization that Lucy was adopted through.
