FAIRFAX, Va. — Fairfax County Police are investigating the death of a Springfield woman. Fayra Desiree Bonilla-Rubi, 26, was found near a wooded area Friday evening.
Police were called to the 7600 block of Highland Street in Springfield after being alerted by a community member to Bonilla-Rubi’s body. Her family reported her missing earlier in the week on Monday.
WUSA9 spoke to Bonilla-Rubi's mother, she said her daughter was loved by all who knew her, she was a hard worker and was taking college courses in Virginia. She asked to remain anonymous out of fear.
“She was a girl who made herself of service to others. If you needed help, she would help you right away." her mother said.
She believes her daughter knew the person who killed her, based on information she said police found on her cell phone.
“The person who killed her was a long time friend. They went through her phone and found out what they did to her. They kidnapped her and killed her and just dumped her body,” the mother said.
Detectives investigating the case are working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Meanwhile, a coroner will conduct an autopsy to find the cause of death.
Bonilla-Rubi’s family has started a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral costs and to bury her in their home country of Honduras. The account has already surpassed 50% of its goal of $20,000. If you wish to donate, click here.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding Bonilla-Rubi’s death to call them at 703-246-7800.
