FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County Chair, Sharon Bulova announced on Monday that she will be taking some time off to undergo surgery to have a part of her thyroid removed.
The Board of Supervisors will not be meeting during the month of August and the first week of September, in order for Bulova to address her medical issue which started back in March.
Her right vocal cord became paralyzed and impacted her ability to speak. She is no longer experiencing problems with her voice, however there is a nodule on the right side of her thyroid.
She expressed in a statement that her office had declined several invitations to various events that were scheduled during the same time frame. Bulova is sharing the information in order to explain her absence.
Bulova also stated that she would be in constant contact via e-mail, with her office and County staff.
"I look forward to being back in the saddle after Labor Day holiday weekend and serving as your Chairman," Bulova said in the statement.
