It's not a typical police call, but chasing emus was what Prince William County police found themselves doing this week after a few of the big birds made a jailbreak off their Haymarket farm.
Police are trained for nearly every type of encounter.
“OK do you need another unit to assist?” the dispatcher asked over scanner traffic.
“I have no idea, standby,” one police officer said. “We’re gonna need some backup here.”
Once those police instincts kicked in, the officers were able to corner the birds (who were unarmed and had clean records).
“We're managing to keep it in the yard but I’m not sure where it belongs,” a police officer said.
Turns out the emus didn't get too far from the farm.
They received a police escort home and were let off with a warning.
