Plane forced to make emergency landing after landing gear issue in Stafford

The pilot and one passenger were unhurt, police said.

STAFFORD, Va. — A plane made an emergency landing in Stafford after an in-flight emergency on Thursday. It happened just before 5 p.m. at the Stafford Regional Airport. 

According to Virginia State Police, a small private aircraft was unable to deploy its landing gear. The plane circled the airport to reduce fuel before landing on a runway with Stafford Fire and Rescue standing by. The plane landed safely. The pilot and one passenger were not hurt, according to Corrine Geller, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police. 

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified and the incident remains under investigation. 

Additional details have not been made public.
