LEESBURG, Va. — A former Loudoun County School Board member is facing assault charges following a bar fight early Friday morning.
According to Leesburg officials, Erik Dekenipp and three others were seen leaving a bar along the 500 block of East Market Street when an argument ensued.
Dekenipp served on the LCPS Board from 2016-2018 before resigning to spend more time with his family.
Dekenipp and another man reportedly got into a fistfight while in the parking lot. As things continued to escalate, a third man identified as, Joseph Smith, jumped into the fight.
The three allegedly fought until they tired each other out. Once the fight ended, Dekenipp is accused of then physically assaulting a woman that he was with. At this time, we do not know who the woman is or how she is connected to the former Loudoun County School Board member.
Dekenipp and Smith were both arrested and taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. While in custody, Dekenipp started complaining about pain in his arm. At some point during the fight, Smith cut Dekenipp with a knife.
Smith was charged with malicious wounding. Officers transported Dekenipp to the local area hospital for treatment, then charged him with simple assault.
Now, both men are being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, Smith without bond and Dekenipp on a $1,000 bond.
