ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Crews worked to tackle a large warehouse fire for hours in Alexandria.
According to Alexandria Fire, the flames sparked at a warehouse in the 4400 block of Wheeler Avenue Tuesday just after 9 p.m.
The flames grew to a size categorizing it as a 3-alarm fire, meaning there is increased danger requiring more than one fire squad to extinguish the flames.
Around 11 p.m., the fire was contained. Just before 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the fire department stated that they were still extinguishing hot spots at the location.
Throughout the night crews remained on the scene. One firefighter was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and has since been released.
Officials believe the warehouse was not occupied when the fire sparked.
There is no word on what may have caused the fire at this time. Fire marshals are expected to return to the location Wednesday morning to conduct an investigation.
