PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A multi-vehicle crash at VA-28 northbound at Spruce St. in Prince William County has caused all northbound lanes to be blocked.
Officials are asking motorists to follow police direction or to seek alternative routes. The delays start at Breeden Ave., and last approximately 1.5 miles.
Additionally, a multi-vehicle crash in Fairfax County has blocked three left lanes, officials said. One right lane remains open for traffic.
The crash is on I-66 westbound before VA-243, near Exit 62 and Nutley Street in Fairfax County. Officials said delays start at I-495 near Exit 64 or Capital Beltway.
The delays extend for approximately 1.5 miles.
There was heavy traffic on I-68 near Cumberland, Maryland due to icy road conditions on Friday, Dec. 13.
Freezing rain in western Maryland appears to be the reason for the closure of eastbound I-68. It appears that ice may have been a factor in an accident just west of Cumberland.
According to MD State Highway's CHART website, cars and trucks were seen sitting on eastbound I-68. At the time of the closure, freezing rain was reported with temperatures in the upper 20s.
A few showers on Friday morning with some areas experiencing freezing rain north and west of D.C. anticipated issues around the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory Friday for areas north and west of D.C. until Friday afternoon.
As of 10:30 a.m., cars and trucks were seen moving again, but slowly.
