ARLINGTON, Va. — A man hit and killed a bear on Interstate 395 in Arlington over the weekend. The crash got a lot of attention on social media.
According to Matthew Demlein, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police, troopers received a call Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m. from a driver who spotted the dead bear on the side of I-395 Northbound near Exit 8C.
When the trooper got to the scene, he confirmed the bear was dead, and contacted Arlington Animal Control Services to remove the bear.
A few hours later, troopers got a call from a driver who said he struck the bear, but did not stop because he was not feeling well. The driver was not injured.
This comes as the more bears have been spotted across the D.C. region. Last month, an Arlington woman and her son found an illegally dumped bear carcass that had been hit and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 66.
