ARLINGTON, Va. — Thanksgiving morning thousands will run through the streets of Arlington for the 19th annual Turkey Trot.
Thursday's rain will make it a wet and soggy run, but that will not stop the 4,000 expected walkers and runners who will participate in the sold-out run.
The race is a favorite in this area because the Christ Church of Arlington donates the net proceeds to 18 local non-profit groups.
The 5k route starts and finishes in the Lyons Park neighborhood at the intersection of N. Pershing Dr. and Fillmore St. and runs through Ashton Heights.
This means road closures in the area. Here are the roads Arlington County Police said will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m:
- N. Pershing Drive from N. Edgewood Street to N. Piedmont Street
- N. Oxford Street from N. Pershing Drive to 4th Street N.
- N. Oakland Street from N. Pershing Drive to Columbia Gardens Cemetery Side Entrance
- 4th Street N. from N. Oxford Street to N. Nelson Street
- N. Irving Street from 9th Street N. to 2nd Road N.
- 2nd Road N. from N. Irving Street to Columbia Gardens Cemetery Side Entrance
- 9th Street N. from N. Irving Street to N. Highland Street
- N. Highland Street from 9th Street N. to 1st Street N.
- 1st Street N. from N. Highland Street to N. Fillmore Street
- N. Fillmore Street from 1st Street N. to N. Pershing Drive
People will start arriving around 6:30 a.m. to pick up their race packets. The race will start at 8 a.m.
People who are not joining the Turkey Trot and need to go through Arlington to get to Thanksgiving plans should either get on the road as soon as possible, or may have to sit through quite a bit of traffic because of the closures combined with the wet roads.
WUSA9 wishes all of the Turkey Trotters a great race despite the rain!
