ARLINGTON, Va. — If you're looking to do some leaf peeping, Arlington National Cemetery is hosting fall walking tours in the month of October and into November.
Each fall ANC's horticulture team leads visitors on unique tours showcasing the memorial arboretum. This year, foliage tours will be held on Oct. 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3.
On Oct. 13 and Oct. 27, visitors can see the trees at Arlington at the peak of their autumn colors.
"On this tour, you will learn about the cemetery's Memorial Arboretum, a Level III Accredited Arboretum. You'll gain insight into ANC’s urban forestry program, extensive tree collection, and State Champion trees. The overall horticulture program, and the variety of techniques used to create some of the most breathtaking formal and informal landscapes and gardens will also be highlighted," cemetery officials said.
The tours run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
On Oct. 20, you’ll learn about the diverse and thriving plants at the President Taft Gravesite, the Sir John Dill Memorial, and the entryway to the President John F. Kennedy Memorial.
Lastly, the Nov. 3 tour will showcase the fall colors in the afternoon. This tour departs at 1 p.m.
"Come join us as we discover the wealth of our diverse collection of plant material, as the fall colors take central stage," officials said.
If you're planning to attend any of the tours, your encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring a bottle of water. Tours may be canceled due to inclement weather.
