ARLINGTON, Va. — Amazon has announced its proposed development plans for its Arlington headquarters.
The first phase of Amazon's "ground up" construction will transform a block of vacant warehouses into two new "LEED Gold-certified buildings" and retail space, a press release said.
The LEED buildings are energy-efficient office buildings with work-spaces and green outdoor areas -- all in two 22-story towers.
The proposed plans also include street-level retail space for shops, restaurants and even a daycare center for Amazon employees and local residents.
Public green spaces will also be a feature of the headquarters, and will include a dog park, farmers markets and even a recreational areas, "helping realize the community's vision for a large, centrally-located park," the release said.
The headquarters will feature bike-friendly access with room for 600 bikes in on-site bike facilities. There are also plans to construct a new part of the cycle path on South Eads St.
The new headquarters is close to two metro stations as well as bus lines and a VRE station, promoting the use of public transportation.
Amazon plans to invest over $2.5 billion in building HQ2 over the next decade, "driving the creation of thousands of indirect jobs in construction, building services, hospitality and other services industries across the region," the release said.
