ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria City leaders issued an apology Tuesday after what they called "potentially offensive materials" were found inside an officer's patrol cruiser.
"We apologize for the nature of this material," a statement from Alexandria City Manager Jim Parajon and Alexandria Police Chief Don Hayes reads. "We honor the public trust by serving with integrity, civility, impartiality, and by holding ourselves accountable when we do not."
An investigation into the "potentially offensive materials" was launched and officials say it was an isolated incident that will be handed in accordance with personnel accountability procedures.
"We recognize the importance of maintaining public trust and will continue to ensure our conduct, collectively and as individual employees, is reflective of our commitment to serve all Alexandrians," the statement continued.
The department statement apologized for the materials, but did not go into details as to what exactly was found inside the patrol cruiser. There is no word on who that cruiser may have been assigned to at this time.
