Prince William County fire leaves 3 people without home

The apartment was declared unsafe to live in by the building official.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Authorities have released the cause of a fire that left three people without a home in Woodbridge Monday evening.

Crews with the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department responded to Dale Forest Apartments, located on Wilderness Lane, just before 8 p.m. after receiving a report of an apartment fire. When they arrived they saw light smoke coming from the building, but learned all residents had safely evacuated the building.

The fire was found in an apartment and was extinguished. No one was injured, but one apartment was declared unsafe to live in by the building official.

The Red Cross is working to help the three people who are now without a home -- two adults and a child.

The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire was a battery-operated scrubber igniting nearby combustibles.
