'Lifting wallets and not weights' | 2 women arrested, facing charges for credit card thefts at gym in Fairfax County

Surveillance footage from multiple businesses showed the duo using the stolen credit cards to make purchases.

BURKE, Va. — Two women have been arrested after allegedly stealing credit cards from a gym locker room in Fairfax County.

The Fairfax County Police Department says they received multiple reports of larcenies that happened at a women's locker room at OneLife Fitness, located at 9250 Old Keene Mill Road in Burke on Jan. 25. After the thefts, the victims' credit cards were used at multiple stores, some of which were in the City of Fairfax.

Through an initial investigation, officers were able to discover that there were a total of five separate larceny reports from the same location with the same method of actions between Jan. 24-29. By using surveillance footage and credit card transaction records, two people were identified for the crime -- Rayan Hassan, 25, of Annandale and Sumaya Mendez, 30, of Lorton.

Footage from multiple businesses showed the duo using the stolen credit cards to make purchases.

Detectives learned that Mendez had a gym membership at the location, and Hassan went with her as a guest.

Both Hassan and Mendez were arrested this past week, and charged with four counts of credit card larceny. Hassan has since been released on an unsecured bond and Mendez was released on a $6,000 secured bond.
