LEESBURG, Va. — Two Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies were injured after being struck by an oncoming vehicle while responding to an unrelated crash in Leesburg.
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue responded to the area of Watson Road and Manbar Lane in Leesburg around 8 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash. The deputies were taken to an area hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. However, one deputy's injuries were described as serious.
One deputy was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon. The other remains in the hospital in serious condition.
Sky9 was over the scene of the crash, which showed two damaged motorcycles from the sheriff's office and a car with front-end damage.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a teenager who has a driver's license. They were released to their parents. The sheriff's office confirmed the driver was a teenager with a driver's license. That juvenile has since been served with a summons for failure to maintain control of his car.
The sheriff's office is conducting an active crash investigation. They believe ice may have been a contributing factor in the crash, but the cause is still under investigation.
