PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Two drivers have been cited in Prince William County after being caught going over 100 mph on Saturday morning, less than 30 minutes apart. The police department is now issuing a warning to drivers before the busy holiday travel season.
Officers with the Prince William County Police Department conducted a traffic stop on two drivers in the area of the Prince William Parkway, near I-66 and Dumfries Road, in Manassas.
One of the people was caught driving 102 mph in a 65 speed zone, which is 37 miles per hour above the limit. The driver was cited with driving 20 plus mph over the limit.
The second driver that was stopped was observed driving 124 mph in a 55 posted speed limit zone, meaning the driver was going over double the speed limit. In fact, the person was driving 69 miles per hour over the limit. They were cited for reckless driving by general danger to life, limb or property.
The police department is asking, and emphasizing, for drivers to watch their speed limit.
"This speed is both reckless and dangerous, especially during the busy holiday travel season," the police department stated in a tweet. "SLOW DOWN!"
