FAIRFAX, Va. — Two drivers were caught going over 100 mph in Fairfax County on Wednesday, which was over double the posted speed limits.
The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that "Road Sharks are on the menu."
In the first speeding violation, they said a Reston officer stopped a driver on Fairfax County Parkway after they were spotted hitting triple digits. Their reckless driving charge was described as going 105 mph in a 50 mph zone. "No possible excuse here," police said in the posting. "Slow down."
The second person, or 'road shark' was caught by a Franconia Days B officer going 112 mph in a 35 mph zone. A speed that police say in that zone "endangers everyone."
Both drivers have been summoned to appear in Fairfax General District Court (traffic) for the violations.
FCPD and Virginia State Police kicked off their "Road Shark" campaign for 2024 just this week to deter aggressive driving, reduce crashes and change driving behavior. The campaign successfully worked to promote safer roads last year, police said.
