PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A teenager was taken to an area hospital for help after they were hit by a car Friday morning.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, the teen was hit outside Marsteller Middle School in Bristow and the person driving the car did not stop. Police say the vehicle was later found and are following up on leads.

The teen was taken to an area hospital for help and is expected to survive.

The teen has only been identified as a Patriot High School student by Principal Dr. Michael Bishop.

In a letter to families, Bishop said the student's family has been contacted and that the school is offering support. Additionally, several students reportedly watched the teen be hit by the car.

"It has been brought to my attention that several of our students witnessed the accident this morning," the letter reads. "Our school counseling team is available to those students."

Charges have not been filed but are likely, according to a police spokesperson.
