1 driver caught going 89 MPH, another 95 MPH in a 35 MPH zone in Fairfax County

One of the drivers tried to elude arrest, but they were caught and are now facing charges.

LORTON, Va. — Spot the difference -- Fairfax County streets and a race track. Officers with the Fairfax County Police Department believe some people need reminding, that in fact, they are not the same.

In a social post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the police department stated: "Our streets are NOT a race track!" This comes after two people found themselves going more than 50 mph over the listed speed limit.

On Thursday morning, officers caught a "daring" driver going 89 mph in a 35 mph zone of Route 1 near Furnace Road in Lorton. Attempting to elude arrest didn't work, as the driver now faces reckless driving and speeding to elude charges.

Police said to use this as a reminder to slow down, but if that isn't enough -- that driver was not alone in their actions.

In the same area, another driver was caught going 95 mph in the 35 mph zone -- resulting in another speeding ticket. "Don’t be wild," the police department stated in the post.
