LEESBURG, Va. (WUSA9) -- What do fans think of RGIII now that the Redskins’ first round pick has been released? One family says they’re happy, but it’s not what you think!

The Leesburg, Va. family told WUSA9 that they’re happy because they’re hopeful RGIII will get to show his talents in a different city.

At the National T.A.P.S. Headquarters on Wilson Boulevard in Clarendon, Va. is where you find some of the most diehard, dedicated, loyal RGIII fans. It’s also here where you’ll find people who are more than just fans.

“They added us their family and all of them made us feel a lot more safer and I guess whole. I don’t know how to explain it,” said Lexi Deck, whose family is a part of the T.A.P.S. family and now also Robert Griffin III’s family.

That’s the relationship the Decks have with RGIII, who they met through T.A.P.S. about a year ago.

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors is a program that helps military families who’ve lost loved ones. Griffin, who is a military kid, works with T.A.P.S. and learned Reese Deck has serious medical problems. The relationship started with a pair of socks.

“We got a package in the mail before a surgery and my son went a little insane over some socks that he got, some RGIII socks. I relayed that back to Diana at T.A.P.S. and then she relayed that to Robert and that turned into a home visit. I was trying to like figure out how to fill the 20 minutes that I expected them to stay with us and they stayed for like three hours,” said Lexi and Reese’s mother, Crystal Deck.

Despite his ups and downs on the field, the family says RGIII remained a constant, positive role model in their lives, even checking on the kids’ grades. They also knew this day would come. On his release, the family said they can learn to love a new team.

“All of us at T.A.P.S. love Robert. He has been so supportive of all of our families,” said Teams4taps Director, Diana Hosford. “Anywhere in the country he goes, he’ll take us with him,” she continued.

“He’s going to go on to do amazing things wherever he is in his career,” said Crystal Deck.
