"Drive out Cancer" : University of Maryland Capital Region Health Foundation raises funds for cancer in golf classic

MITCHELLVILLE, Md. — The University of Maryland Capital Region Health Foundation took a swing at knocking out cancer by hosting the 34th Annual Golf Classic "Drive Out Cancer", on Thursday.  

The foundation aimed to raise funds to aid with cancer care. In April, UM Capital Region Health's Center for Advanced Medicine opened in Prince George's county. The center will focus on four types of cancer: breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. The center also features state-of-the-art treatment in radiation therapy, medical oncology, chemotherapy, and surgical oncology. 

Several golfers and community members supported the event to tee off for a good cause. The event featured a luncheon with a silent auction, raffles, and awards for golfing. Supporters included 

WUSA9's Miri Marshall helped to host the day, announcing the names of winners during the awards luncheon held at The Country Club at Woodmore Golf Course.
