WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A suspect has been arrested for allegedly putting what appeared to be sugar into the gas tank of a Metropolitan Police Department cruiser Saturday afternoon in NW, D.C., witnesses told police.
According to a report made by witnesses the incident happened in the area of 3215 Mount Pleasant Street in NW around noon.
The suspect was seen putting what appeared to be sugar into the gas tank of the cruiser which was parked in that area.
Witnesses say they the saw the suspect throw away an empty box of Domino sugar into a trash can.
Police arrested 41-year-old Kunle Shakir of Northwest, D.C. in connection with the incident. He has been charged with destruction of property.
The incident remains under investigation.
Police do not believe the motive has anything to do with recent police-involved shootings.
