Streak is over, record stands at 15 days

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Update: Despite a cloudy and misty day, no rain was measured at National Airport Thursday, May 12, not even a trace. This ends our streak of rainy days and we keep the new standing record of 15 consecutive days.

The previous record was 10 consecutive days set from July 17th - July 26th in 1938 and again from August 12th - August 21st way back in 1873. Again these records are for measurable rainfall.

The longest streak at Dulles with measurable rainfall for consecutive days is nine days set in 2015, 2009, 2003, 1975 and 1968. The current stretch will end at 7 days; therefore, no new record.

The longest stretch of a trace or more of rainfall for National/Downtown is 17 days set from March 31st - April 16th back in 1935. This record will stand.

Dulles has broken their consecutive number of days with at least a trace of rain now at 17 days stretching from April 26th - May 12th and still counting.
