Student charged after bomb threat at local high school

A Montgomery County Police School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Montgomery Blair High School has charged a student who attends that school with making a false statement regarding a destructive device, police said.

A Montgomery County Police School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Montgomery Blair High School has charged a student who attends that school with making a false statement regarding a destructive device, police said.

The Montgomery Blair SRO investigated the bomb threat and during the investigation, a student made admissions regarding making the call to police reporting the threat.

Around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a person identifying themselves as a Montgomery Blair school security officer. The caller stated to personnel that a student told them that there was a bomb in the high school.

Officers responded to the school and based on the nature of the threat, administrative staff at the school made the determination to evacuate the students from the building.

Police canine units were called in search the building for possible explosive devices. Just after 1:45 p.m., the school was determined to be safe and the students re-entered the building.

The student was charged as a juvenile with one count of making a false statement concerning a destructive device, one count of making a threat to explode a destructive device, and one count of threats of bodily harm; disturbing classes and activities.
