CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- University of Virginia officials knew about allegations of a sexual assault months before they were detailed in a now controversial Rolling Stone article, according to the Daily Progress.
Rolling Stone's A Rape on Campuswas published on November 19. But the Daily Progress reports that an associate dean met with representatives from Phi Kappa Psi, the fraternity where the alleged gang rape took place, on Sept. 17 to inform them about the allegations.
"Mark Lipka, director of standards with the national Phi Kappa Psi fraternity based in Indianapolis, said Monday he took part in the Sept. 17 meeting with Associate Dean of Students Nicole Eramo, but he would not elaborate," the Daily Progress reports
After the Rolling Stone article came out, UVa President Teresa A. Sullivan asked Charlottesville police to investigate. Rolling Stone has since issued an apology and then a clarification, backing off the original article.
