RESTON, Va. — A 62-year-old man is behind bars Wednesday after police said he is responsible for raping and abducting a woman in Reston.
Steven Edwards, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with abduction with intent to defile after an incident on June 11.
Officers were called to the area of Reston Parkway and Baron Cameron Avenue around 11 p.m. that evening where they found an injured 49-year-old woman.
The woman told police she was walking on a nearby path when she was hit from behind and sexually assaulted. She was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police released a composite sketch of the suspect (Edwards) on June 21 and asked the public's help in identifying him.
With the help of the sketch, detectives were able to identify and arrest Edwards, who is a registered sex offender.
Edwards was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
