BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Hundreds of students from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School walked across the stage on Wednesday for graduation. However the controversy surrounding a few students who were allowed to walk continues.
Not everybody agrees with the decision made by Interim Superintendent Larry Bowers. Superintendent Bowers overruled his own principal at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He decided to let six students who were allegedly caught drinking at prom participate in graduation ceremonies on Wednesday anyway.
Supporters say the principal's tough policy was working and fewer teenagers were drinking.
She had explicitly warned them that if they were caught drinking, they could still graduate, but they could not walk on to the stage to get their diplomas.
All six students who were allegedly caught drinking walked across the stage on Wednesday.
Now parents are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss the controversy.
