Meet Sarah Gahagan

Sarah Gahagan serves as the WUSA9’s Executive Producer for Impact and Verify. Sarah moved to the Washington D.C. area in 2016 from St. Louis where she worked as a producer covering multiple special projects at KSDK. During her time at KSDK, Sarah worked on organizing coverage for major events including the Ferguson Riots, Olympics Coverage in Brazil and the recent historic flooding. She earned an Emmy award for her work on “An Evening with Bob Costas,” shot on location at the historic Fox Theater. Before moving to St. Louis, Sarah worked as Executive Producer at WEYI, an NBC affiliate in Mid-Michigan. Sarah started her career in TV news as a video editor just two weeks before the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001.

After spending more than 15 years behind the camera, Sarah was nervous about speaking up and having an on-camera role for the Impact project. After meeting the students and staff at Francis C. Hammond, that nervousness was quickly replaced with a passion to share this story with anyone who would listen. Sarah describes the Impact project as the most rewarding and fulfilling project in her career.

“When you sit down with these kids in school, you have to look them in the eye and you really start to feel and understand what they are going through. And it’s not enough to tell their story anymore. You have to do something about it. We weren’t going to leave that school the way that we found it.”
