WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Commander-in-Chief spoke words of wisdom at Howard University's graduation on Saturday.
The class of 2016 were ready to face the real world and soaked up their special day under overcast skies.
Roughly 2,000 graduates received their diplomas Saturday. Many more loved ones witnessed the proud moment.
"We have an adopted son from Jamaica who is a biology major and he's graduating with honors," said Sharon and Tony Williams. "Jay we are so proud of you and we love you."
Security was tight for the expected 25,000 people in attendance.
President Barak Obama is the sixth sitting president to deliver the keynote address at Howard University. It's one of three commencement speeches he'll make as president.
Other VIP's in attendance was actress Cicely Tyson and ambassador Horace Greeley Dawson Jr.
Mr. Obama will deliver commencement speeches at Rutgers later in May and the U.S. Airforce Academy in June.
