WASHINGTON — Election Day can be stressful for many. To help ease any feelings of anxiety, the National Cathedral in D.C. is hosting prayer services throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"As the sacred ground where the nation gathers for prayer at pivotal moments in our life together, the Cathedral will be open for prayer and meditation on Election Day as votes are cast, and on the day after as votes are counted," a spokesperson for the cathedral said. Here's a look at the schedule of events on Tuesday.
- 8 am ET: Service of Morning Prayer
The service of Morning Prayer includes readings, psalms, prayers and hymns, offering a meditative and intentional beginning to Election Day.
- 12 pm ET: Interfaith Noonday Service of Prayer
Bringing together representatives of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths, the service offers prayers, readings and music. The Election Day Prayer Vigil will be anchored in our shared hopes for safety, a free and fair election, and the peaceful transfer of power.
- 5 pm ET: Service of Evening Prayer
- 8:45 pm ET: Compline
Starting at 5 p.m., the service of Evening Prayer includes readings, psalms, prayers and hymns, offering an opportunity for reflection and reassurance in the midst of Election Day. The service of Compline includes readings, psalms and prayer, offering an opportunity for contemplation and hope as Election Day draws to a close.
On Wednesday, the Cathedral will host a Service for Unity and Hope after an Election, beginning at noon.
"Gathering in prayer and song as we prepare for what could be a protracted season of uncertainty, we lift our voices in hope as we pray for fair elections, the peaceful transfer of power, and the safety and well-being of the nation and our leaders. Music is provided by the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Contemporary Ensemble," according to the cathedral's website.
All services will be streamed on the National Cathedral's YouTube page here.
