WASHINGTON — The Metropolitan Police Department responded Friday, just after 5 p.m., to a report of an unconscious child in the intersection of Galloway Street and South Dakota Avenue, in the northeastern part of Washington, D.C.
Once on the spot, police indicated they found a four-year-old male unresponsive inside a vehicle. Subsequently, the child was pronounced dead.
While the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Victims Unit is still investigating this tragedy, the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
Neighbors and trespassers were shocked by the news, and some even mentioned this incident was alerted "too late" as something could have been done.
This sad event occurred the same day Mayor Bowser activated the district's heat emergency plan, as Friday was one of the hottest days reported.
