Police are asking the public's help to identify two suspects wanted in connection with an assault that was caught on surveillance video in December.

WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — Montgomery County police are asking for the public’s help to identify a knife-wielding woman seen on surveillance video assaulting a store employee at the Westfield Wheaton Mall last month.

Officers were called around 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2 to the Westfield Wheaton Mall at 11160 Veirs Mill Road on a report of a theft and assault.

Investigators learned two women went to the Smart Fix shop to have a cellphone screen repaired.

After the male employee completed the repair, one of the women asked to see the phone so she could make sure that it worked, so the employee gave it to her and both suspects ran away without paying for the service, police said.

Police said the employee ran after the suspects and became involved in an altercation with them. During the altercation, one of the suspects swung a knife at the employee and told him to "back away." The suspects were last seen running from the mall, police said.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Callers who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).

Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in the case.
