GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A woman is in critical condition after being stabbed in Gaithersburg Thursday night. A person matching the description of the suspect was found less than 40 minutes later, having been hit by a train.
According to Gaithersburg City Police, the 51-year-old woman was stabbed in the 500 block of Girard Street. First responders were called to the area just before 9 p.m. and took the woman to an area hospital in critical condition.
Police began looking for the suspect, only identified as a man, who reportedly ran before police arrived.
Less than 40 minutes later, officers were dispatched to the area of E. Diamond Avenue and Railroad Street for reports of a pedestrian struck. Montgomery County Fire and EMS say the person was hit by a CSX train and pronounced dead at the scene.
The person killed matches the description of the suspect who stabbed the woman earlier Thursday night, police say.
The identity of the man killed has not been released. Both incidents remain under investigation.
