ROCKVILLE, Md. — A man is in custody in connection to a fatal collision in Montgomery County. The Independent Investigations Division is investigating the death of a woman involved in a crash, Saturday morning in Rockville.
At 2:25 a.m. Montgomery County Sheriff Deputies observed a Dodge sedan speeding down Rockville Pike. Deputies activated their sirens, in an attempt to locate the Dodge and conduct a traffic stop. Before they could, deputies came across a two-car collision, one of the cars was the Dodge.
Officials with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Twinbrook Parkway, two occupied vehicles were found, one of which was a rollover.
Investigators believe, the Dodge collided with a Honda as it was turning onto Rockville Pike.
Both vehicles required extrication to remove the people who were inside. The driver of the Honda, an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, also an adult woman, according to the Assistant Chief with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, David Pazos' social media account was transported to a trauma hospital in critical condition.
The woman has since died. Police identified her as 25-year-old Jasmin Gimon of Adelphi, Maryland.
Police say, the driver of the Dodge, an adult man, ran away after the collision occurred. But, was later arrested by police.
The Maryland Office of Attorney General Anthony G. Brown stated Saturday morning that investigators with their Independent Investigations Division (IID) were at the scene of the crash as well due to it being police-involved.
The crash remains under investigation, and the Office of the Attorney General is leading it.
