GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A car crashed into an apartment building in Montgomery County Tuesday morning, resulting in multiple people having to be evacuated.
Officials with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Department (MCFRS) responded to King James Way, off of West Diamond Avenue, in Gaithersburg around 7:15 a.m. after a report of a vehicle colliding into a wall.
No injuries were reported due to the collision, but there was significant structural damage to the building. MCFRS's Technical Rescue Team responded to the location to stabilize the building.
Six people were evacuated from the building, and the property manager gave them a place to stay out of the weather, which was a wintry mix at the time.
Only two apartments above where the car was hit were evaluated. The interior area that was damaged was storage and laundry for the building.
The cause of the collision has not been released at this time. WUSA9 has asked Pete Piringer, the spokesperson for MCFRS, if weather could be the cause of the crash, but he does not believe it was weather related at this time. We have reached out to the police department for any additional information.
