GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police have released surveillance video of two men wanted for carjacking a victim at gunpoint in Silver Spring and catalytic converter theft in the area.
Detectives say that around 4:20 a.m. on Dec. 1, a man was at his home on Middlevale Lane when he heard a noise outside and saw an unknown man near his family's car.
Police say the man approached the suspect who was sitting in the driver's seat of the family's car. As he walked up, the suspect got out of the family's car and attempted to get into a red SUV. A second suspect pulled out a gun at this point and hit the homeowner with it. The second suspect then demanded the man's property and keys to his car.
When another man from inside the home tried to help the victim, both suspects got in the red SUV and drove away from the scene towards Layhill Road.
The investigation also found that at 3:30 a.m., the same suspects were seen stealing a catalytic converter from a car in the 1900 block of Alderton Road. Before that, at 12:22 a.m., the suspects had been spotted in the 13900 block of Alderton Road in an unknown black sedan.
