OCEAN CITY, Md. — It is always a great time to plan a trip to the beach, and luckily one of the best in the country -- at least according to one list -- is just a three hour drive from D.C.
Travel + Leisure magazine released its 25 Best Beaches in the USA feature on April 5, with locations ranging from New York to Hawaii and from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Maryland made the cut with the recognition of Ocean City Beach.
The list states that the beach has a groomed shoreline and a lively boardwalk, which gives the East Coast beach a "classic Americana vibe." The beach has eight miles of white sand and features a three-mile boardwalk that has amusement park rides, bike rentals, shops and treats to devour on those warm days. The location also offers activities such as jet skiing, fishing and even boating. There is even a Backshore Brewing Company, located right on the boardwalk.
Also included in the list of 25 beaches are Poipu Beach in Hawaii; Clearwater Beach in Florida; Oak Street Beach in Illinois; Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina; and Alki Beach in Washington to name a few.
